Rei Kawakubo, Alessandro Michele, Nicolas Ghesquière, and Many Others to Design Tributes to Alber Elbaz – Vogue

Without question, Elbaz was an enthusiastic booster of his fellow designers in an era where peer-to-peer support wasn’t as visible as it is today. Gabriela Hearst, creative director of Chloé, told me that she was on the receiving end of that support. “He was modern in his attitude of understanding that the most démodé thing was to be a snob,” she said. “I will forever be grateful of how encouraging he was when I started here.” The tribute show’s concept is taken from Théâtre de la Mode, a 1945 Paris exhibition that brought together over 60 French couturiers in the wake of World War II.
