John Boyega has appeared in “The Woman King”.
The 29-year-old actor will appear in a historic epic with Viola Davis and Susombedu.
Gina Prince-Bythewood, who recently directed Netflix’s action movie The Old Guard, will direct the features of TriStar Pictures, which also features Lashana Lynch in the cast.
The film is inspired by what happened in the 18th and 19th centuries in the Kingdom of Dahomey, one of Africa’s most powerful states.
It is an ambition to fight with Naniska (Davis), the general of the all-female military unit, and enemies who violate their honor, enslave their people, and threaten to destroy everything they have lived. Following Nawi (Mubedu), a typical recruit.
John played King Ghezo, the ruler of the Dahomey kingdom, and the director was urged to cast him after speaking in a protest against Black Lives Matter last year.
Gina said in a statement:
“King Ghezo’s account says,’The Earth walks as if it were respected for its burden.’ John has its innate depth and stride, and I do it. I’m very excited to put it on the screen. “
Dana Stevens wrote the original script and is working with Gina on the current draft of the script.
John recently revealed that he is keen to appear in historical drama after seeing the hit Netflix series “Bridgerton.”
The “Star Wars” actor said, “I don’t think it’s the show, but I think there’s definitely a future to wearing high boots and a hat and speaking a clearer pronunciation. That’s definitely my future. It’s the future. “
