‘A Taste of Africa in the Heart of Livermore’ – Pleasanton Weekly

The Cheza Nami Foundation is leading a celebration of African cultures in the Tri-Valley on Saturday with its annual “A Taste of Africa in the Heart of Livermore” event.

The family-friendly celebration from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. outside the Bankhead Theater will include entertainment, food and educational activities promoting cultures of Africa and the African diaspora.

“From an African Gojo Hut exhibit, to a reading library, the event features various forms of art, outdoor musical and dance performances, a Kids Zone equipped with hands-on learning experiences, musical instrument exploration, arts and crafts, face painting and so much more,” organizers said.

Attendees can participate in the range of activities on the Shea Homes Plaza lawn area directly in front of the Bankhead Theater in downtown Livermore.

Entry to the event is free, while any proceeds or donations from the event will go toward supporting local Bay Area youth outreach programs, organizers said.

Cheza Nami — a term from Swahili for “come play with me” — is a nonprofit organization that encourages diversity awareness through a play-based approach to cultural education.
