New health facilities will be built and developed in Africa by ‘Redemptoris Missio,’ a humanitarian aid foundation in Poznan, western Poland, through funds gained from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Justyna Janiec-Palczewska, the director of Redemptoris Missio, told PAP that the biggest challenge was time, since the organisation had six months to implement three projects in three African countries. She said, however, that the foundation has had experience carrying out similar projects in the past.
Funds for the projects of the Redemptoris Missio foundation derive from grants which came from a “Polish development assistance 2021” competition organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Janiec-Palczewska said that thanks to this money, nearly PLN 1.5 million (EUR 327,000) in total, it would be possible to renovate and equip the Centre for Malnourished Children in Velingara, Senegal, expand the health centre in Kithatu, Kenya, and build and equip a clinic for mothers and Children in Maganzo, Tanzania.
“We have six months to complete these projects. It’s clearly quite a challenge and we hope that we’ll be able to make it in time,” she said.
“As soon as we sign a contract with the ministry, we’ll be able to send the money to Africa and, at that point, local companies will be hired to carry out the investments,” she told PAP.
“Then our volunteers as well Polish doctors will head to Africa to train local personnel,” the director of the foundation added.
Janiec-Palczewska also said that the missionary medical facilities in Africa were often the only places where professional medical assistance could be provided under good conditions to local communities.
