5 Things to Know: Art in Bloom at Orlando Museum of Art – Bay News 9

ORLANDO, Fla. — Just in time for Easter is your chance to experience “Art in Bloom: Festival of Fine Arts & Flowers” this weekend. It’s a pastel party like none other.

1. “Art in Bloom” is now in its second year at the Orlando Museum of Art. It used to be more of an antique show for decades, but now — while you still can find some vintage Chanel — it’s all about beautiful floral art pieces created by local masterminds.

2. One of those masterminds is Bobby Belanger. He is the lead designer at Flower No5 in Orlando. Belanger’s floral design is inspired by the museum’s Willie Cole artwork.

“His mother and grandmother were domestics,” he said. “He’s just a strong individual, which I loved.”

“He felt as though there was a spirit mask in Africa that they use that kind of spoke the same language as the face of the iron, so the burn mark is what that represents,” Belanger said, referring to the iron in his Art In Bloom floral installation. “So I wanted to pull that in by using the irons.”

3. The “Art In Bloom” daily show features also include antique dealers, auctions, pop-up shops (soy candles, baked treats, etc.), an outdoor farmer’s market, Tables in Bloom, and more.

4. The festival runs March 26 through 28, 2021 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

5. General admission is $15 adults/ $5 (ages 3-11), and $12 for seniors, military, first responders, and OMA members.
