Global fashion retailer Cotton On has over 160 stores in South Africa but will not be extending its new Self Love range beyond Australia, at least not for now. The new sex toy range, which was officially launched through Cotton On Body’s Instagram on Monday 8 February, immediately drew attention from South Africans on social media.

Using a series of pixelated images, Cotton On Body – which caters exclusively to women with a range of lingerie, active wear and swimwear – announced the launch of its new Self Love range just in time for Valentine’s Day. The actual announcement was preceded by a light-hearted warning that “this content isn’t for everyone” and “we want to make sure you’re comfortable”.

The ultimate Instagram reveal, featuring a series of vibrators and sex toys in a variety of pastel colours, offered a “swipe-up” purchase link which redirected interested buyers to the Self Love catalogue.

“We believe pleasure is personal… and we’re here for good vibes only,” noted Cotton On Body’s Instagram story.

The retailer’s online shop features seven Smile Maker products which form part of the range. The Millionaire, Surfer, Fireman, Tennis coach and Frenchman are the different types of vibrators currently on offer.

Prices range from $39.95 AU (R455), starting with the 9.8cm by 3cm Surfer, up to $69.95 AU (R796) for the 4-speed, 2-pulse mode, 14.6cm by 3cm Frenchman.

The range also features two water-based lubricants (30ml) for $24.95 AU each (R284).

It extends beyond sex toys and lubricants. Thrown into the mix is a range of fragrances, rose and salt soak tinctures, body scrubs and eye masks.

“Since the beginning, Body’s goal has been to empower and inspire our community,” explained Cotton On’s public relations office.

“With the launch of this new range, we invite everyone to explore what self-love and pleasure means to them. We know it’s personal.”

But, for now, Cotton On says it will limit the Self Love range to Australian shoppers only.

“At this point, Cotton On Body’s Self Love range is a limited edition trial and is exclusively available online in Australia only.”

Cotton On did not confirm nor deny the possibility of the range being extended to South African shoppers and added that the range had already “received a huge positive response”.

And while South Africans will have to wait for Cotton On to potentially extend its Self Love range beyond Australia, there is already one popular online retailer which lists the Smile Maker range.

Takealot currently has the Frenchman for R655. The supplier is, however, currently noted as being “out of stock”.
